Uncollectible Status

A Tax Law Attorney to Make Your Case

Are your monthly bills preventing you from meeting your tax obligations or workout with the IRS or the state of Washington? When the IRS is squeezing you for more taxes than you can possibly pay, you have the legal option of seeking to be classified in uncollectible status.

Free Consultation • Stop Garnishment and Harassing Tax Collection Calls

At the offices of CBG Law Group, PLLC, in Bellevue, Washington, we can assess your personal financial status and work with you to see if you qualify for uncollectible status. Contact us to arrange a free consultation with tax lawyer Darrel Carter to discuss your specific circumstances. We work with individuals and business clients throughout the Bellevue area.

Currently Not Collectible Status

If your uncollectible status application is approved by the IRS, they will designate you as a taxpayer who is Currently Not Collectible (CNC). At this point, they will no longer attempt to collect taxes from you for a set period of time.

Your status as a CNC is temporary and will be reviewed from time to time until the IRS determines you are able to pay taxes or they can no longer collect from you because the statute of limitations has expired. If you have lost your job or fallen upon hard times, uncollectible status will give you a chance to reorganize. In rare cases, you may be able to qualify for lifetime status.

Stop Wage Garnishment

Have you been notified by the IRS that they are going to start garnishing your wages? If the IRS has found you currently not collectible, they will cease all attempts to levy your wages and bank accounts, but penalties and interest will continue to accrue. If you receive a notice of intent to levy from the IRS, contact an experienced lawyer immediately.

We Can Help You with State and Federal Taxes

You can also apply for uncollectible status in the state of Washington. The state of Washington, however, has a different and somewhat more difficult set of standards than the IRS. If you have serious financial concerns and are considering applying for uncollectible status, you may want to consider filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, instead.
